What To Look For When Hiring An Electrician

When you need an electrician to do some work for you, whether it is in your residential or business premises, there are factors you need to consider. You should not rush into hiring any electrician who comes your way but you should take time to evaluate whether he is the right person for the job. You should remember that if anything goes wrong, you may end up losing a lot of money and worse still, you will be putting your safety at risk. How do you make sure that you end up with the right electrician? What factors should you consider?

Is He Licensed?

Whether an electrician is licensed or not says a lot about his credibility. Only work with those who are licensed and follow the rules and regulations that govern electricians and other contractors in your area. He should be able to produce documents to prove this. Check the validity of the documents and where possible, you may retain copies of the same.

Is He Experienced

What do you need the electrician to do for you? Does he have the skill and experience to take care of the job at hand? How can he prove this? You should not rely on his word alone but he should be able to provide prove of other similar projects or jobs he has carried out in the past. Where possible, talk to some of his former clients and get to know what kind of a person he is. Or maybe he has done some electrician courses. Be sure to check.

Does he have an Insurance Policy

Although he may be qualified, things do go wrong sometimes. An accident can occur when he or one of his workers is doing the job. If he does not have an insurance policy, you will end up being liable for the accident because it took place in your premises. To avoid this, make sure that all the people who will be involved in the work are covered by the insurance policy.

Is He Professional Enough

Tiny details such as how the electrician dresses can say a lot about how he works. Where he is supposed to get back to you, does he do this on time? Do you have to keep on calling him when you need to know something? Is he punctual, trustworthy, friendly and reliable? Does he insist on following the right procedure when carrying out the job or does he want to follow shortcuts? A good electrician should ask for permits, ensure that the right equipment and materials are used and make sure that the work starts and gets finished on time.

Is He Affordable

Although you should still stick to the budget you have set, you should not compromise on the quality of services you get. Although it is good to work with electricians who are affordable, this should not mean that you automatically hire those who quote a low price. Good electricians also tend to be more expensive. You would rather higher a good electrician even if he may be a bit more expensive rather than compromise on the quality of work you want to be carried out. When you compromise, you will eventually end up looking for the good electrician because the work the other one may have carried out may not offer a permanent solution. This means that you will end up paying more for the same job and at the same time, you will be putting your safety at risk.
